New students

It doesn’t matter what age you are or what body shape you have, yoga is for everyone. There’ll be a place to start. Yoga will meet you where you’re at.

Intro Offer

There will be always be some movement with a yoga practise … it’s one of our ‘layers’, one of our ways to access feeling and a sense of ourselves. It might be that you just need to get out of the environment of your head and into the body to start to feel more at home or more at ease. A yoga practice, at its core, is about relationship. When we start to feel a connection within, we might feel a sense of being drawn to something even greater.

The health benefits that come from knowing what you need and knowing the right time for action and the right time for complete rest are great. You can feel like you’re processing or ‘metabolising’ life well. So, take a look at what speaks to you on our classes page and on our timetable and book in a few classes to get rolling.

… We know you’ll love it here. There is a community vibe which extends well out of the yoga room and the place is homely and laid back.

“I think anyone who gets to be part of the Sun Salute community will see that it’s the best place for yoga practice.”

Most people wear loose or tight gym type attire. We don’t wear shoes to perform yoga postures.

No you don’t. You can use our mats + blankets, bolsters and props.

Once you’re a member though, you might like to get your own mat and keep it fresh and yours.

Turn your phone off or on silent. Place your shoes along the hall cubby.

Yoga is for people of all levels of mobility. There are props and chairs if needed and ways of modifying poses for all shapes and sizes. Safely moving in and out of poses is key.

Yoga practice can bring change and that may bring some emotional release. We instinctively or intentionally hold space for one another in a yoga session.

Keep conversation to a minimum in the practice room and enjoy the serene space yourself.

Depending on your mobility and fitness level there are a range of options but you might like to consider a gentler option first. These classes are all good to start with:

Monday Hatha 10:15am, Wednesday Hatha 9:45am, any of the Yin. Have a read about Ashtanga on our classes page.

Also consider the in-studio Guided Relaxation on a Friday for a full body rest or the Zoom meditation session early on a Thursday morning for a great way to start your day.

Absolutely! In fact Mysore can be ideal for beginners as you given one to one instruction and you move at a pace that suits you. In a Mysore class beginners and experienced yogis work alongside each other, so there will be a range of abilities in the room. And don’t worry – everyone was a beginner once.

Read more about the Mysore style on the classes page.

Even strongly scented laundry powder can be detected in a warm room!

Consider your personal hygiene, arrive for class fresh and in clean practice clothes.

Yes there are! We have one shower. And two bathrooms. You are welcome to use the shower at any time provided you bring your own towel and toiletries.
